They say it doesn’t rain on a golf course, but this was an exception as we had some early morning showers which made for some interesting golf on the opening holes. Umdoni, as always, was in pristine condition, golf cards available for everyone and Veni at the Pro Shop always so helpful and cheerful that early.
John by contrast, quickly brings you down to earth with his wry smile as he ‘red’ inks your new handicap and whilst you are focussing on it, the ever efficient Allan slides his hand across for your hundred bucks! Stuart kept away from the action at the Starter’s table, this time, but hung around sipping on his energy drink and chirping all and sundry.
Umdoni played extremely well, it always does, and scoring was slightly above average with team honours going to Illovo Syrup on 128 (counted in). They unfortunately missed the prize-giving and so they will receive their ‘Form-Scaff’ sponsored prize at Selborne. Counted out into 2nd was SEW Eurodrive also on 128 points with 3rd place going to Sappi Engineering on 127 points.
Easy2Access, our website sponsor and sponsor of the Nearest the Pins, handed out bottles of red wine to Kevin Wearne (3th), Trevor Hay (7th), Ugan Sokalingham (12th) and Dave Shepherd (16th).
Sasfin, the sponsor of the 2-clubs, handed out 10 x sleeves of Callaway branded balls.
The best individual prize, as sponsored by SEW Eurodrive was won by Nelson (also from SEW Eurodrive), who scored 37 points off a 5 handicap. Well done Nelson.
Looking ahead, Illovo Syrup and Drive-Rite 1 will compete for the Wilf Toy Trophy at Selborne on 24th March 2018 and by all accounts Illovo are having a very good season with some 29 points ahead of Sappi Engineering on the log.
Andre reminded all that we need players for the Wild Coast game (21st July 2018), so please email Ryan if you are keen to enter a 4-ball (or 2-ball).
